Sales campaign incentive · global paint & coatings group
Open below ground and in silence, with nothing to perform. Every sales incentive in this category opens with a welcome dinner and a speech from the front of the room; this one opens with a tunnel and no audience. The cost is a first movement with no spectacle in it and nothing to applaud. It buys the one thing the rest of the route depends on — the group arriving as a group rather than as an audience.
This is the strongest money-can't-buy claim on the whole route, and it is spent in the second movement rather than saved for the last. A leaders' itinerary holds its best access back for the finale, because standing is assumed and only needs confirming at the end. Challengers need the proof early: evidence, on day two, that a door has been opened for them that they could not have opened themselves. The price of putting it here is a flatter middle, and we took it.
The dive is a tribute to the courage of the people being rewarded, which is the entire thesis of this option said in two seconds. We deliberately kept it inside lunch instead of building an evening around it. A twenty-four-metre dive does not survive being turned into a ceremony with a compere and a countdown, and the bridge belongs to the town, not to the group standing under it.
A whole movement given to standing still and looking down. Nothing is booked, nothing is bought out, nobody performs and no one is thanked; the canyon does the work on its own. It is by a long way the least expensive thing on the route, and it sits in the middle on purpose — here the message is the scale of the ambition, not the scale of the access.
The only physical test on the route, and it is placed late, when the group has already stopped being strangers. Five and a half kilometres of stone in the heat is not for every body in the room; the feast is at the bottom of it, so that anyone who turns back early still eats at the same table. That is the design in one line — the effort is optional, the reward is not divided.
A convoy instead of a transfer, and a swim instead of a viewing platform. Both cost more than the sensible version and both hand away a degree of control, which is exactly why they belong to this half of the campaign. What was cut is the comfortable alternative: one larger boat, a look from the deck, everybody dry.
The first formal night of the route is also the last one, and it is outdoors: stone underfoot, no ceiling, the sea forty metres below. We protected that distinction all week. This group is given the view from the top of the wall rather than the gilded room behind it — because the whole point of the route was getting up there.
A fortress rooftop above the sea, bought out for one night, at the end of a week spent underground and on foot.
This is the half of the campaign written for challengers and growth markets — the people still taking share rather than defending it. So the route is uncomfortable on purpose in places: a tunnel you walk into, a wall you climb, a canyon you stand over, cold water you get into. What was withheld is everything the other option leads with. No palace, no heritage state room, no carriages, no gilded interior at all — and the one formal dinner is the last thing that happens, outdoors, on stone. Three borders in a single route is also a decision rather than an accident: the whole campaign is about crossing into ground you have not held before.
