Company trip · 40 participants
Forty people clear immigration, collect bags and find a coach at the speed of the slowest bag. Two sights and a dinner is what an arrival day actually holds. A third stop would be one nobody remembers, and a dinner everybody arrives late to.
In a group of forty there is no single right answer to a theme park. Splitting the day is cheaper than compromising it: the people who want the park get a full day in it, and the people who do not get the one thing a company trip almost never gives them — an unscheduled day in a city centre, with the hotel five minutes away.
Everything before it is sightseeing that any group could do. This dinner is the only hour in five days when forty colleagues are in one room, seated, with nothing to walk to. It is booked as a private room with a set menu so the service never interrupts, and it is placed on the middle night — late enough that people have stopped being polite, early enough that nobody is packing.
A late-morning departure from a Kyoto hotel means a coach before six and forty people who did not sleep. The airport hotel costs one night of atmosphere and returns the entire last morning. It is also the easier duty-of-care argument, which matters more on a company trip than the view from the window does.
Because the last morning is a lift ride. That was decided on day one, in the hotel booking, and it is the only reason this paragraph is short.
One private room in Kyoto, forty colleagues seated, and nothing left on the schedule after it.
A company trip is not a holiday with more people in it. Three rules shaped this one. One headline sight a day, so nobody is dragged. One optional day, so forty people who want different things can each have theirs. And one dinner in the middle that the other four days exist to set up. The last night is at the airport — a decision nobody thanks you for until the morning of the flight.
